W.P. Stewart & Co., Ltd. Announces New Appointment to U.S. Investment Management Team

HAMILTON, Bermuda: Dec. 5 2005 - W.P. Stewart & Co., Ltd. ("W.P. Stewart" or the "Company") announced today that John C. Mahler, has joined the U.S. investment management team at its New York based research and portfolio management subsidiary, W.P. Stewart & Co., Inc.

During 2001 - 2005, Mr. Mahler held senior positions at Brown Brothers Harriman & Company where he served as Head of Equities and earlier as Director, Equity Research. In these positions, Mr. Mahler was responsible for building and managing an equity research team that guided more than $7 billion in equity portfolios.

Previously, he was employed at Manning & Napier Advisors in Rochester, NY serving as Co-Director of Equity Research (2000-2001), Portfolio Manager, Life Sciences Fund (1999-2000) and Senior Equity Analyst -- Healthcare (1997-2001).

Mr. Mahler received his BA and MD from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC and his MBA from Columbia University in New York. He is Board Certified in Psychiatry (1990) and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (2000).

In commenting on Mr. Mahler joining W.P. Stewart, Harry Segalas, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of W.P.
