Numbering Services
The Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) is the designated CUSIP/ISIN Numbering Agent for Bermuda, providing CUSIP/ISIN security identifier numbers for all securities/issues registered and/or domiciled in Bermuda.
The BSX is the exclusive contact for CUSIP/ISINs in Bermuda co-operating with CUSIP Global Services, which is managed by FactSet Research Systems Inc. on behalf of the American Bankers Association.
What are CUSIPs & ISINs?
CUSIP/ISIN numbers provide unique identifiers for securities traded and settled through global securities markets and clearing institutions.
ISIN numbers are 12-character alphanumeric codes used globally to identify securities. For securities registered/domiciled in Bermuda an ISIN begins with the prefix “BM” followed by 10 characters, for example: BMG12345AB89.
CUSIP numbers are derived from ISIN – removing the first 2 letters and the last character. These 9-character alphanumeric codes are used in the US and Canada.
CUSIP/ISIN Numbering Process
Standard turnaround time of 48 hours for a Bermudian ISIN/CUSIP: $340 per security per class.
Faster requests (4 to 6 hour return of confirmation): $470 per security per class.
The Classification of Financial Instruments (CFI) and Financial Instrument Short Name (FISN) are included at no additional cost.
