BAS Group Announces Appointment of Group Vice President and CEO
Hamilton, Bermuda: July 6, 2006 - Effective October 1, 2006 Mr. Kenneth L. Joaquin will be joining the BAS Group as Group Vice President and CEO reporting directly to the Group President Mr. Eugene Bean.
Mr. Joaquin, aged 37, is married with two children. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Western Ontario and did his graduate studies in public accounting at McGill University in Montreal, culminating in a professional designation as a Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
Mr. Joaquin joined the civil service as an accountant in the Ministry of Works and Engineering in 1996 and rose through the ranks. Transferring ministries, he became management accountant in the Accountant General's Department in 1998, and was promoted to Assistant Accountant General two years later.
In July 2002, Mr. Joaquin assumed government's top accounting position when he became the Accountant General - the youngest Bermudian to ever hold that post. After serving in that position for two years Mr. Joaquin was promoted to the post of Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Health & Family Services where he led one of the largest government ministries.
Mr. Joaquin left the civil service in October of 2004 to take over the helm of Stevedoring Services Limited as President & CEO where he was successful in enhancing the operations of the company.
During his professional career Mr. Joaquin has earned a reputation for his collaborative management style and his ability to get things done.
