The BSX Rings the Bell for Investor Literacy
Hamilton, Bermuda – 26 September, 2019: The Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) today announced that in support of the World Federation of Exchanges, of which it is a Board Member, it will once again be participating in the International Organization of Securities Commissions’ (IOSCO) World Investor Week to be held globally September 30th to October 5th, 2019.
In making the announcement BSX President & CEO Greg Wojciechowski noted, “The overriding purpose of World Investor Week is to encourage and support the importance of investor education. This year’s theme ‘Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy’, takes the global initiative one step further, by challenging investors to not only educate themselves on the risks and rewards of investing, but to actually apply that acquired knowledge to better understand investment terms and Public Company data, with a view to ultimately making more informed investment decisions.”
Mr. Wojciechowski went on to say, “World Investor Week dovetails perfectly with the Exchange’s ongoing ‘Own Your Share of Bermuda’ campaign and provides us with yet another opportunity to promote our Investor Education Guide, which is available as a free download from our website www.bsx.com.
The Guide is designed to serve as an introduction for first-time investors and is must-read for anyone considering opening an investment account online or though one of our Trading Member firms.”
In keeping with this year’s theme, the BSX will mark the start of trading on Monday, September 30th with a ceremonial bell ringing. Mr. Wojciechowski explains further, “More than 50 exchanges around the world will mark World Investor Week with either an opening or closing bell ceremony. For our part, the BSX has chosen to underscore the significance of this global initiative by inviting the City of Hamilton, Town Crier, Mr. Ed Christopher to proclaim the opening of trading at exactly 9:30am on Monday, September 30th outside our Victoria Street headquarters. Joining us to mark the occasion will be a select number of local dignitaries, among them, representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the BMA and CFA Society of Bermuda.”

Its free statistics database stretches back more than 40 years, and provides information and insight into developments on global exchanges. The WFE works with standard-setters, policy makers, regulators and government organisations around the world to support and promote the development of fair, transparent, stable and efficient markets. The WFE shares regulatory authorities’ goals of ensuring the safety and soundness of the global financial system.
With extensive experience of developing and enforcing high standards of conduct, the WFE and its members support an orderly, secure, fair and transparent environment for investors; for companies that raise capital; and for all who deal with financial risk. We seek outcomes that maximise the common good, consumer confidence and economic growth. And we engage with policy makers and regulators in an open, collaborative way, reflecting the central, public role that exchanges and CCPs play in a globally integrated financial system.
