TeleBermuda spokesman Kenneth Spurling said TBI was informed today that the Bermuda Telephone Company is now completing the final interconnection of the local phone system to the TeleBermuda international long-distance service. The completion of that process, expected in the next few days, will in turn allow TeleBermuda to begin connecting its customers to the TBI network.
"The TeleBermuda network is fully operational," Mr. Spurling said. "We already have test customers using the system to make calls all over the world, and they are absolutely delighted with it. As soon as we have the final green light from the local phone company over the next few days, we will begin the process of switching all of our customers to TeleBermuda".
Mr. Spurling said TeleBermuda's 15% savings on all long-distance calls, in addition to evening and weekend discounts, will begin the day each customer is connected to the TBI network.
Mr. Spurling said that due to the initial response for TeleBermuda's new long-distance service, coupled with an increasing daily volume of new orders, the process of switching all TBI customers over to the world class network may take up to two weeks. TeleBermuda customer service representatives will be contacting customers personally as soon as they have been switched over to TBI.
"We appreciate the patience and support of all our customers," Mr. Spurling said, adding that "the quality and savings of TeleBermuda long-distance will have been well worth the wait."
