BSX Receives NASD Approval to Sponsor Series 7 Candidates And Host Examination In Bermuda

Hamilton, Bermuda - 28 April 2000: The Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) has received approval from NYSE and NASD to sponsor local candidates for the NASD Series 7 examination and to host the examination in Bermuda.

To mark this unprecedented achievement the BSX will sponsor an intensive 3-½ day Series 7 training seminar May 31st through June 3rd at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. Lecturer for the series will be world-renowned author and presenter, Alvin Hall.

BSX Corporate Communications Manager Joanne MacPhee explains, "Series 7 is seen as the benchmark qualification for any one interested in pursuing a career in international investment and finance. Until now Bermudians interested in obtaining this qualification have had to study on their own or take an overseas course, find an accredited company willing to sponsor them and then incur the cost of traveling overseas to sit the exam. Now they can do it all at home! We believe employers will view this as a far more attractive alternative for their employees and as a result we expect to see an increase in the number of applicants applying for this year's course."

The BSX conducted a similar Series 7 training course with Mr. Hall two years ago but at that time were unable to secure sponsorship privileges or arrange for the exam to be adjudicated in Bermuda. As a result many of the candidates failed to achieve their final objective.

Mrs. MacPhee stated, "The BSX is absolutely delighted that NYSE and NASD have afforded us this opportunity to help Bermudians advance their careers in the financial services arena. The Exchange is dedicated to educating Bermudians about the emerging opportunities available for them in Bermuda's growing financial services sector and to improving industry standards and we believe this goes along way to achieving both these objectives."

A representative from the NYSE will proctor the Series 7 examination in late June at the Bermuda College.
