Under the agreement, U.S. Cellular will leverage Global Crossing's advanced network to provide its customers with reliable voice services and increased network capacity and connectivity. The agreement will also give U.S. Cellular access to Global Crossing's uCommand service, a Web-based customer service portal that will provide the company with online, real-time control to monitor its customers' network usage, generate reports and allocate network resources and bandwidth more effectively.
''This relationship with Global Crossing will enhance our long distance services and better position U.S. Cellular for future growth,'' said Dick Goehring, executive vice president of engineering and chief technology officer for U.S. Cellular. ''The reliability and scalability of Global Crossing's network will expand our wireless telecommunication services at reduced costs, and improve the level of service and support we provide to our customers.''
''We are very pleased to enter into this agreement with U.S. Cellular and look forward to providing the company and its customers with improved voice and data services,'' said Brian V. Fitzpatrick, president of Global Carrier Services for Global Crossing. ''The combination of our network's reach, speed and availability will ensure U.S. Cellular's customers receive high-quality wireless service without interruption.''
