Upon joining the Bank in June 2000 as Chief Administration Officer, Mr Butterfield assumed global responsibility for the Bank's Operations, Information Systems and Human Resources divisions. In his new position, he takes on overall responsibility for the day to day operations of the Bank, as a member of the Office of the Chief Executive, other members of which are Chief Executive Officer Henry Smith and Chief Financial Officer Edward Gomez.
Mr. Butterfield joined Bank of Bermuda following 28 years experience at Citibank in different departments, his final post being Managing Director responsible for the Corporate Executive segment of Citibank Private Bank in the United States. Prior to that he worked as Quality Director for the Operations & Technology Division for North American Global Finance. He has also worked for the North American Banking Group as Director of Human Resources for the Customer Services Division, as well as for Citicorp Industrial Credit as Chief Administration Officer.
