Asia Global Crossing, a joint venture among Global Crossing,Microsoft, and Softbank Corp., is accelerating construction plans of its East Asia Crossing, a 2.5 terabit subsea fiber optic system
designed to bring unprecedented broadband apacity to East and Southeast Asia, and link the region to the worldwide Global Crossing
Network.
"Our global strategy is to link all of the world's major business centers on one single network. Asia Global Crossing is building the
preeminent system for the Asia Pacific region, and we are extremely pleased by the government's decision that will allow us to land a cable and make Taiwan part of the seamless worldwide network," said John Legere, Asia Global Crossing CEO.
"Rapid deployment of East Asia Crossing brings increased access to Taiwan and gives Taiwan unprecedented access to the world. This access
will let carriers in Taiwan offer their customers a range of global products and services to become one of the communications centers in the Asia Pacific region," said David Milroy, President of Asia Global Crossing, Asia Pacific. "Accelerating our construction schedule in response to the government action shows Asia Global Crossing's
commitment to creating the first truly Pan-Asian network, and is a great example of how aggressively we respond to new Asian markets as
they open."
