Nomura Joins The Bermuda Stock Exchange

Hamilton, Bermuda, 19 August 1996 - The Bermuda Stock Exchange today announced that Nomura Securities (Bermuda) Ltd. had been approved as a member of The BSX. The firm becomes the first broker/dealer trading member affiliated with a global brokerage firm.

Nomura Securities (Bermuda) Ltd., a new subsidiary, is owned by Nomura Holding America Inc., the North American holding company for the world's largest securities firm, The Nomura Securities Co, Ltd. of Tokyo.

W. William A. Woods, CEO of The BSX commented: "We are pleased to welcome Nomura as The BSX's first international broker/dealer trading member affiliated with a global brokerage house. Further, we are honoured that a firm with the reputation of Nomura has chosen Bermuda as the jurisdiction in which it wishes to conduct business." Woods continued, "Nomura's international standing adds an important dimension to The BSX and indicates the success of our efforts to deepen relationships with capital markets worldwide as we continue our rapid evolution into the world's first offshore, fully electronic securities market."

This latest announcement compliments a six month period where The BSX has increased its market capitalisation by nearly $23 billion, or more than 20 times its year-end 1995 capitalisation.

In existence for more than 25 years, The BSX is an international electronic securities exchange with a market capitalisation of more than $25 billion. There are currently 50 equity issues, 13 of which are international: 60 investment funds; and 9 debt issues listed. Trading is conducted via the Bloomberg Financial Markets System (see BSX).
