Tyco Electronics Unveils Three New AMP NETCONNECT Technologies

Harrisburg, PA: 31 January, 2001 - Tyco Electronics, a unit of Tyco International Ltd., today introduced three new strategic technology initiatives at the COMNET 2001 trade show and conference being held at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center from January 29 - February 1, 2001. The company will exhibit its new products in Booth # 2614-A.

Among the new technologies being introduced by Tyco Electronics are AMP NETCONNECT Cable Assemblies for Data Centers and Storage Area Networks (SANs). These pre-terminated cable assemblies and cassettes provide a greatly needed "plug-and-go" solution that enable in-house network administrators to quickly and easily connect optical fiber cabling to data center and SAN components. As a result, the addition or redeployment of capital equipment in highly complex data center and SAN environments can now be accomplished in literally minutes without the need for outside contractors. This sets a new industry precedent for time-to-deployment which, until now, has typically taken days, weeks or months.

Tyco Electronics is also introducing its new AMP NETCONNECT MT-RJ Optical Fiber Cabling System for Secure Networks. This new system offers all the features and benefits of the standard MT-RJ connector system with the extra advantage of network security. Because many networks require a measure of mechanical security to limit access and segregate network segments, the MT-RJ connector system features molded slots on the plug and molded keys on the latching jack. This reduces the chance of unauthorized users from accessing the wrong network. With the new MT-RJ connector system, it is now possible to run separate networks in a common area while controlling access to specific networks. This greatly enhances network security without limiting access to specific locations.

The third new addition to the Tyco Electronics product line is the AMP NETCONNECT Category 6 Cabling System. The new system exceeds all TIA and ISO-proposed performance requirements for Category 6/Class E cabling systems and components. In addition to offering twice the operating bandwidth of Category 5 and Category 5e copper cabling alternatives, this new cabling system offers the advantages of a new SL Series Category 6 jack. When combined with SL Series outlets, the slim profile of the new jack improves outlet density.
