Tyco Unit To Upgrade Traffic Monitoring System In UK

Pembroke, Bermuda: 16 April 2001 - Tyco Fire & Security Services, a major business unit of Tyco International Ltd. (NYSE: TYC; LSE: TYI; BSX: TYC), today announced that its Integrated Systems business unit has won a major transportation infrastructure project in the UK, to provide closed-circuit television monitoring for traffic control. This order is the result of Tyco Fire & Security Services' strategy to provide services that support the growing global need for infrastructure improvements in road, sea and air transportation.

In the UK, Tyco Fire & Security Services has been awarded a contract to upgrade and extend the Closed Circuit Television ("CCTV") surveillance coverage on the M25 London Orbital motorway. Tyco Fire & Security Services' Integrated Systems group has already supplied three complex control centers and in excess of 200 fully functional cameras for the motorway over the past eight years. The new upgrade includes 63 additional cameras and the improvement of the transmission and control system to use the latest Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) digital technology.

The UK Highways Agency stated that its objective for the upgrade is public safety and efficiency. The system is primarily used by the traffic police to assess the severity of road traffic incidents and ensure that the appropriate response is dispatched to the scene.

Phill Ford, Managing Director of Tyco Fire & Security Services in the UK, stated, "This contract represents the first ATM based digital CCTV system to be installed on a UK motorway. As this pioneering technology is expanded, Tyco Fire & Security Services will have the opportunity to further leverage our expertise in this area."
