W. P. Stewart Issues Earnings Guidance

Hamilton, Bermuda: 2 October 2001 - W.P. Stewart & Co., Ltd. announced today that, based upon its preliminary analysis of the impact upon its business of market conditions, including the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, the Company is providing earnings guidance of approximately $0.41 per diluted share for the third quarter of 2001, and approximately $1.70 per diluted share for the full year ending December 31, 2001. The Company noted that while it typically has not issued earnings guidance in the past and does not plan to do so in the future, the extraordinary market reaction to recent events led to its decision to issue guidance in this instance.
